Whacky Stuff in the New BA Dex

OK, so rules and impact on game aside, some new things in the BA Dex just struck me as off the wall whacky ...

First off, Deep Striking Land Raiders. Sure, sure, they explain it in the fluff by claiming that they're being dropped by Thunderhawks, but I really have two questions at that point ...

1) Where's the Thunderhawk, and why isn't it using its D weapon to help me out at all before it leaves again?
2) What happens when a Land Raider scatters onto a Grot (I mean I know the answer, but ... really)?

Next up, the Magna-Grapples on the Dreadnaught. Who else's first thought went here ...

A Dreadnaught yanking tanks around just strikes me as a tad off the wall ... call me crazy.

Next up ... Mephiston ... have you seen this guy's statline?

When did this happen? Does it strike anyone as outlandish that he's got a better statline in basically all regards than a HIVE TYRANT? I'm not just talking attacks or strength or anything ... he's T6 W5 ... I .... well, whatever.

There's a lot more to go with ... look at the dex for yourself. Flying Land Raiders with exorcist missiles and renamed "stormravens" are also in there. The arrival of the angry emo prissy space vampires doesn't just herald a new powerful codex in the recent line of such dexes ... it heralds a new age of GW cartoonism in gaming. Gone is the deep dark landscape of the 41st millennium. Instead, we get this ...

Thats fantastic... I would go so far as to say FAB-YOU-lusssss!

I have not had a chance to look through the codex yet, but the rumors I am hearing are sounding absurd. Unfortunately, I think most of them are damn near accurate!

  3. I flipped thru a codex at the Fair Oaks GW store, and man, all I could think of was that 40k army I've always wanted to make, based on the Monarch from the Venture Bros. Instead of Sanguinor, you have the mighty Monarch, see, and then piles of space marines with butterfly wings (jump packs) being deployed from flying cocoons (Storm Ravens). Oh hell. Maybe if someone commissions it, I'll go all Dave Taylor and build it to order (and it will be a guilty pleasure doing so)

I'd like T-Hawks on the battlefield, too, but they cost so damn much all your army would be are T-Hawks and their contents, and very few of them to boot. I'll take that new transport and fill it with my Ultramarines. Looks like it's going to be the Valkyrie of 2010.

You really want your whole army to win or lose based on whether or not your opponent brings Brock Samson?

This comment is two codecies too late. Space Marines riding wolves should have triggered this comment.

  5. I didn't have a blog up at the time.

Also, as a lifelong Tyranid player, I was too busy wigging out in anticipation of the Nid Dex.

  6. Is Mephy T6 straight, or is his base T lower? Since he isn't an IC I'm not too impressed.

Lots of silly stuff going on here, but I'll be too busy with my FNP/FC assault marines and 6 Predators.

  7. Mephy is T6 straight, so he's ID immune for most practical purposes.

Biggest mistake people are going to make is attempting to reconstitute Immo spam but with BA using TLHF Razorbacks.
