The above is a draft, of course - there's more that can be changed and finagled; your input is welcome, of course; it's a crazy exciting weekend of 40k is what it is - a lot of it, with a lot of good solid gaming.

To explain the meaning of "Sign-In and Drops" on Day 2; while we're structuring our Incidental Comp style to ensure that even the 16 people who go 0-4 on Day 1 will have 4 close games and one will be guaranteed a 4-0 Day 2 with an accompanying Best Generalship prize ... we recognize that not everyone is up for that in light of the opportunity to get out of town sooner.  So, we'll have optional outs at the BEGINNING of Sunday.  There will be a variety of non-gaming events going on Sunday as well, or casual gaming events, so players will have the opportunity to withdraw from their additional rounds and participate in some of that without having to leave "super late" on Sunday evening.  I actually anticipate most players will want to play on Sunday - it promises 4 very close games with the bracketing style, but there's no reason for us to force people who are 0-4 or 1-3 or 2-2 to endure at cost to their "real lives."

Thoughts and input are welcome; I'd also be curious who would be interested in the TT of those who troll here regularly.  We'll probably encourage 3-man teams signing up already formed, but offer a pairing service for people who'd like to play in it but aren't bringing a ready to go team with them.

  1. Providing I don't somehow win my way into the invitational, I'd def. be up for some team tournament action.

Schedule looks full but organized, are there going to be food vendors on site to make things smoother?

  2. I like the look of it. Intense is an understatement. But if you're looking for a few days of hobby madness. This is your cookie!

How's the invitational going to work? Should I start buying Wonka chocolate bars?

  3. I like it. It's an exciting thing and looks to be a ton of fun. I'm hitting up adepticon and wargamescon to try and pick up my invitiational ticket. Also the Bugeater, does that have invites? Had to miss my two cali events that had them due to work :(

Whiskey Challenge on Thursday. That works pretty well. Overall I like it. And you can bet your ass I'm gonna find a way into that Invitational :)

  4. It's yermom

Hulk I'm sure you'll get your ticket to the invitational :). Just so I can kick your ass round 1 :P. Lol but I'm sure you'll gett in and do well man.

Anyway I like how the tournaments are broken up. (I especially appreciate the invitaional being Friday as Saturday is my girl friend's birthday). Only issue is when do I get dinner durring the invitational!?

  5. Just make sure there are bathrooms enough. No one but Nurgle wants a repeat of the Battle for Salvation massacre.

  6. Quick reminders Mike,

Folks are going to be arriving all day Thursday. Some sort of open gaming earlier than you have scheduled might be nice, or some way to put the early arrivals to use, so they are not sitting around. Get 'em busy and keep 'em busy. Registration cannot begin early enough. And with early registration should also come early appearance reviews. We'll have how many armies? 256 40k armies alone? Make space for this. It too cannot begin early enough. Perhaps a display of armies area, so all the proud players can exhibit their work while awaiting a table for open gaming or during the Whiskey Challenge and Invitational. The sooner it's done the better. It will be a clerical nightmare otherwise.

Why no mention of the other tournaments for Fantasy, or for Warmachine/Hordes, and Malifaux? Where are they on the schedule? Less than 9 months to go. Almost out of time...

  7. Ack! 6:30am sign-ins. Guess I'm actually going to have to sleep the proceeding evening then. ;)

As I'm only anticipating in the Open, it looks good enough to me. The games are spread out enough to where it won't get too mentally draining and leaves enough in the evening to enjoy ourselves after. The late lunch might annoy some people, but I personally don't have an issue with it.

The Invitational, however. Looks like its going to be a big grind. Not sure I envy those players. lol! I think 5 games is a bit much, but at least they aren't playing until like Midnight. Hopefully that will be sufficient to allow those players to recharge their batteries before the Open (if they are playing in it).

  8. The Invitational WILL be tough; I don't know that you can call yourself a top flight player if 5 games is *that* intimidating ... and it is for a pair of $1,000 cash prizes ... we'll see how the overall reaction is when the entire field is "assembled/invited."

  9. 5 games is reasonable for top flight players. They'll be tired, but it's not obscene. 30 minutes between matches is the right amount of time.

  11. Five games in a day shouldn't be too bad. And its preferable to needing to come a day earlier.

  12. I'd definitely sign up for a team tournament. I find that it's an excellent test of strategic skill, as you have to both control your own army and coordinate with your allies' armies to win. The pairing service is also an excellent idea.
