NOVA FAQ v. 6th.3

http://www.novaopen.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/NOVA-FAQ-v6th.3.pdf

Note that the NOVA FAQ is designed to be printed on double-sided paper to conserve printing costs. It is kept trimmed to as small a # of pages as we can while still having it be a useful document, to encourage tournament organizers who use it to print for all attendees. This is so that no opponent can claim the FAQ has a certain answer (and lie in the process), leaving their opponent with a lengthy and unavailable document or wasting time calling a rules judge to prove or disprove the claim. We would rather force honesty by letting all players be provided with a printed copy of the FAQ.

Just a quick note that we've updated the NOVA FAQ for use in the upcoming Battle for Salvation. Ed wanted me to get an updated version out sooner than later, as they wanted to use it. Done.

Mostly it removes rulings made redundant or incorrect by the GW FAQ. We got a couple different than they ruled, and many the same, rendering all irrelevant in the process.

Many of the unique power weapons in the various codices are still not FAQ'ed, but many were FAQ'ed, so that chart is also shorter.

Note that since several of the people in our area are attending BFS, any major changes were run by their judges via Ed Miller without our input, and we went with their rulings. If we end up disagreeing (we do not presently), we will amend following a tournament we'll be participating at.

Very minor changes, except for 2:

1) Imotekh's Lightning and Njal's Storm do NOT affect Zooming Flyers / FMCs. Maledictions and Blessings can affect them, along with any subsidiary or attendant damage effects (i.e. Objuration Mechanicum). This ruling was actually brought up and determined more by the BFS guys than by the NOVA crew; we simply concur with it.

2) The Doom Scythe's Death Ray may still place its initial point and draw its line anywhere within 360 degrees of its weapon, but may only cause hits and allocate wounds to models within its line of sight (so, 45 degree horizontal and vertical fixed firing arc of the Death Ray itself).

  1. Yay! Rational thought finally wins!

  2. The changes to auto-hit stuff to Fliers specifies Zooming Fliers, but leaves out Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures. Is this intentional or oversite?

  3. I straight up disagree with Imotekhs Lightening ruling. The lightening strikes are not attacks but army wide abilities or even straight up game environment abilities (similar to dangerous terrain). Similar to Vulkans twin linking. If Vulkan dies the army doesn't lose the twin linking. The only thing that Imotekh controls is the roll at the beginning of the Game Turn to see if the storm goes on. Once that is successful (or not) then the rule for that ability is in effect for the entire Game Turn. Even if Imotekh dies in the first Player Turn of the Game Turn the lightening still goes off in that players shooting phase for that Game Turn. Then next Game Turn Imotekh is not alive to roll and see if it goes on so it auto-ends. Imotekhs ability is the Storm, not the Lightening. The Lightening strikes are a by-product of the storm. Even Desperate Allies can be hit by the Lightening.

    1. As I think about it I don't think a Chronometron can be used to reroll the lightening strikes but it CAN be used to reroll if the storm goes on.

  4. Okay so here we go again.

If they're not attacks, then the game breaks.

If his power is an attack or a weapon, then the BRB FAQ says it doesn't work on flyers:

"Q: How do maelstroms, novas and beams – or indeed any weapon
that doesn’t need to roll To Hit or hits automatically – interact with
Zooming Flyers and Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures? (p13)
A: Only Snap Shots can hit Zooming Flyers and Swooping
Flying Monstrous Creatures. Therefore, any attacks that use
blast markers, templates, create a line of/area of effect or
otherwise don’t roll to hit cannot target them. This includes
weapons such as the Necron Doom Scythe’s death ray or the
Deathstrike missile of the Imperial Guard, and psychic
powers that follow the rule for maelstroms, beams, and
    novas."

Lets say for a moment though that you're right and it's not an attack or a weapon. What happens after you hit?

Well you'd have to see if you penetrate the vehicle right? According to the BRB page 73:

"Hitting a vehicle is no guarantee that you will actually damage
it. Once a hit has been scored on a vehicle, roll a D6 and add the
weapon's Strength, comparing this total with the Armour Value
of the appropriate facing of the vehicle."

Well, if his the lightening isn't a weapon then it would have no effect. If they're not weapons then they can't check to see if they penetrate.

Either his power falls under the things that can't affect flyers, or it doesn't work against any vehicle.

Both of these outcomes mean no worky on flyers.

  5. Now this might still be a problem if we didn't make any adjustments throughout an Buy WOW Items expansion and the poor-scaling guy just fell farther and farther behind. But we don't do that WOW Gold for Sale any longer. Every tier these days is a new chance for us to readjust the numbers and make sure GW2 Gold For Sale that even if there is a stat scaling issue that we can compensate for it.
