Why can you duplicate unique characters? Seems wrong to me. Imagine 2 strakens on the board...scary.
ReplyDeleteScary AWESOME.
ReplyDeleteNaw, but seriously, I agree with Old Shatter hands that there should be a restriction on named characters in there. Depending on the character it can get ridiculous real fast. 2 Marbos blipping in at once? Man.
Also, what's the point of 3 people instead of a duo? The third match seems kinda tacked on there.
Numerous unique characters are a possibility, and potentially quite scary. The catch is that to guarantee that pairing, all 3 players would have to play the same codex, which means all 3 players have to play the same codex at 2k as well. As more and more results are showing us, the 2k meta is more and more balanced ... and trying to successfully win with IG is harder than it used to be ... same with BA.
ReplyDeleteThe point in general is that while you may come up with some scary combos (And I encourage it), it's not as simple as that, and you don't get to select your pairings each round ... they're random. If just one person didn't have Straken, only one of the 3 team games would be dual Straken, and the other two would just be one.
As for your questions #2501 - the pont there is that 3 allows for both singles and doubles games in the same TT ... the point of repeatable characters (Aka no restrictions based on what your teammates take), and the singles games, and all that, is to encourage individuals to sign up and be paired with people from around the world who also play 40k ... a casual, warm-up meet and greet of sorts, plus each person gets one warm-up 2k game using NOVA missions, to help get them in rhythm for the main event on Saturday.
Wrinkles are also always nice from time to time :)
So the teams are randomly generated at the event and not set up pre-event by the players themselves? If that's not the case, then I don't see why you would need to allow duplicates of unique characters.
ReplyDeleteYou can sign up as a team, in which case your team is pre-determined; you can also sign up as an individual, and be assigned a random team, in which case your team is not predetermined, and therein lies the rub.
ReplyDeleteGot it. In that case, why not just ban unique characters? I would love that as Tau don't have any good ones anyway.
