We talked briefly at BWW about this, as I don't feel things are going away from being a "hobbyist" to being "an artist"...two different things, both with great merit.

Thanks for the recaps of the games! You did well with the blue bugs, and they looked beautiful on the table! It's competitive, but as you've noticed, it's slooow. I've played 2 tournaments the last couple of weeks and my average game length has been around 3 turns. Yup, embarrassing. Movement, shooting, running and combat takes too damn long. Lists like these wins in the late game, and if you never reach it you usually suffer (more than your opponent).

Plus there's the bad matchups against OP psychic defense (Runic Weapons/Njal/Runes of Warding).

The list I've been running with good success

Flyrant - 2 TL Devourers, Old Adversary (2 Biomancy)
Flyrant - 2 TL Devourers, Old Adversary (2 Biomancy)

3 Hive Guards
3 Hive Guards
3 Hive Guards

10 Termagants
10 Termagants
10 Termagants
Tervigon - AG, TS, Crushing Claws (3 Biomancy)
Tervigon - AG, TS, Crushing Claws (3 Biomancy)
Tervigon - AG, TS, Crushing Claws (3 Biomancy)

10 Gargoyles
10 Gargoyles

1995 points

Hive Guards are great, unlike Zoans they continue to produce against psychic defense and they don't care about Night Fighting. Plus with OA aura from a Flyrant they can rip down Flyers just fine.

What I've found is that in the first half of most games the Tervifexes can't reach combat because they are blocked by Gants encircling every enemy unit, feeling I'm wasting 75 points for Crushing Claws. I have plans to change a couple of things, but I'm afraid that the competitive Nid builds will remain too slow (at least for me) to reach the very top.

My tournament reports and discussions:
http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Tactics&action=display&thread=40868

and
http://thetyranidhive.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=Tactics&action=display&thread=40950

N.I.B.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09250086009240444206noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388453741033869908.post-76817874981342677202012-10-13T09:19:59.684-07:002012-10-13T09:19:59.684-07:00Nice to see the bugs represent! Thanks for the detailed reports, it was a great read.

I was very interested to see in your info packet that you left off the crushing claws for aesthetic reasons. ;) No one will ever believe I didn't netlist this off of you, but I had been toying with putting crushing claws on my Tgons right up until I took a close look at the bits. They look ridiculous against the size of the rest of the model, full on Tyrannosaur short. So they've been off the list and sitting on my work table until I could come up with a decent conversion.

It's also nice to see that highly, highly experienced players can't really get them to play fast in this edition either. It certainly makes the Swarmlord more viable against those irritating mindshackle scarabs.

Is the reliance on biomancy (iron arm) also why you choose to field Swarmlord without tyrant guards? A lot of people claim that with out them he just gets blown away early by the opponent. You seem to prove them wrong :)
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388453741033869908.post-29165411821502035702012-10-13T03:15:43.060-07:002012-10-13T03:15:43.060-07:00Iron Arm grants Eternal Warrior.Iron Arm grants Eternal Warrior.Mike Brandt; mvbrandt@gmailhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00818846784767602047noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-388453741033869908.post-42093020994230671152012-10-13T02:35:13.594-07:002012-10-13T02:35:13.594-07:00Excellent reports and a very nice showing. His bone sabres cause instant death regardless of toughness so Iron arm would not have protected him in that combat.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
